Vienna is a dog who was born and raised at SwissRidge. Her parents are Kyla and Sir Henry.

I kept two pups from this litter, Vienna and Rosie. This was Kyla’s last litter before her retirement. Vienna is a third-generation Golden Retriever bred at SwissRidge. Kyla’s parents were Clea and Monty. Clea was an amazing dog with an extremely calm nature—hands down one of the easiest and most obedient dogs I’ve ever known. She never needed training; she was just naturally good from day one. Kyla (Vienna’s mom) had a very similar personality to Clea. Monty, Kyla’s dad and Vienna’s grandfather, was imported from Spain years ago. His father was the top-winning dog in all of Spain in 2004. Monty didn’t fall far from the tree—he won his Canadian Championship title in only a few weeks. I remember how all the breeders wanted to use him for stud because of his beauty and how quickly he achieved his title. He truly surprised everyone and was a very special dog.

Sir Henry, Vienna’s father, was imported from Germany. He has produced some outstanding Golden Retriever and Goldendoodle puppies. He passed at the age of 14 years old so these lines are very long lived and healthy.

Vienna takes after her mom’s leaner body style but has her father’s personality.

She is an outgoing dog. She is brave, confident, energetic, and always ready for adventure. Compared to other Golden Retrievers in my kennel, she is on the more active side. Vienna needs her daily trail walks and loves to play in the yard with toys and her friends. She lives for her walks, running through the forest and exploring. On the way to the trails, we leash the dogs as we pass through the parking lot before giving them off-leash access. Vienna loves to carry the leashes in her mouth and “help” walk the others. She is excellent off-leash, wandering ahead but coming immediately when called. Once she has burned off her energy, she settles quickly, but everyone at the kennel knows she needs her daily exercise.

Vienna adores both dogs and people. She is incredibly loving and enjoys cuddling, whether with her human companions or her canine friends. She has a gentle, soft nature and is very kind to the other dogs. She will share her toys, often bringing toys to other dogs and dropping them in front of them to encourage play. She also brings toys to us, dropping them at our feet so we’ll throw them for her to retrieve. She truly has that classic retriever personality.

Both Vienna and Rosie (her sister) love the water more than any other dogs in the kennel. They would happily spend the entire day by the pool. Neither has any fear of water. When we throw a ball in the pool, they leap in and retrieve it without hesitation. They are naturals and have loved swimming since day one.

Vienna is the kind of dog who loves adventure and will follow her owners into any new situation. Whether hiking, swimming, snowshoeing, camping, or biking, she’ll be the first one up and ready to go and she has no trouble keeping up. She is a fun, happy dog through and through.

All in all, Vienna is amazing. She has the classic retriever personality in almost every way, although she does have more energy than most of my English Retrievers. The best words to describe her are fun, happy, fearless, adventurous, and energetic.
