Nelson is a Golden Retriever who was born and raised in Germany. He was imported into Canada at the age of five. Nelson has an extremely impressive pedigree and comes from a highly sought after European breeder of English Golden Retrievers. Out of the ten dogs in Nelson’s three generation pedigree, eight of them are Multi Champions. He also comes from a five generation pedigree filled with good and excellent hip scores. Nelson is the father of many purebred Golden Retrievers in Europe, five of which are Multi Champions that I am aware of. While in Germany, Nelson achieved his Junior Hunter Advanced title and also won many Best in Class titles, including becoming a National Winner in September 2018. Nelson has the beauty, health tested lines, and personality that any dog breeder would be lucky to have. I truly scored big with this guy and could not have been luckier.

Nelson is a real head turner. The first thing people notice is his enormous head. Everyone comments on how big and beautiful it is. Then, once you get past his looks, you see his incredibly sweet, happy, and easygoing personality. He wants to be everyone’s best friend and cuddle partner. He is a huge teddy bear with that classic Golden Retriever disposition. He is smart, playful, obedient, affectionate, and absolutely loves to retrieve. Above all, he wants to please. Nelson is not stubborn in the least; he is simply happy to be with people and soak up all the love he can get.

When Nelson first came to us from Germany, he did not understand a word of English. Our trainer worked with him and taught him all his commands in English, which he picked up extremely quickly. Nelson is very food motivated and eager to please, which made retraining him an easy and enjoyable process. Like many retrievers, he finishes his food in seconds and then looks around as though he is still hungry. He is the type who could easily trick someone into giving him a second breakfast, which he would gladly devour. If you drop a treat from above his head or throw it from a distance, he will catch it almost every single time.

Nelson is always up for an adventure. He loves hiking through the back trails, racing ahead of the group with his nose to the ground, but he always circles back to check on everyone. His absolute favorite activity is fetch. I am convinced you could throw a ball for him all day long and he would never tire of retrieving it. Whenever you enter a room to greet Nelson, he gets so excited that he immediately looks for something to bring you, whether it is a ball, a bone, or even his blanket. He is a true retriever in every way, and his hunting and conformation titles are proof of his talent and beauty.

At the end of the day, Nelson is a giant love bug. He would be happiest sitting on your lap, soaking up every bit of affection you are willing to give. He is the kind of dog anyone could own, even someone with no dog experience at all. Nelson is laid back, easygoing, mellow, and incredibly sweet. The best words to describe him are happy, gentle, and always willing to please.
